Meet Candace Proctor of 33rd Street Wine Bar
Candace Proctor has done it all, athlete, theatre major, model, scriptwriter, bartender, mother, wine codensuer, art exhibitor, and business owner. I had the pleasure of sitting down with the enthusiastic owner of 33rd Street Wine Bar to hear her story. Candace grew up in up state New York in a large sports loving family of nine. Her father playing semi-pro baseball and she shined as well with being athlete of the year in track and had a killer underhand fast pitch. Her adventurous spirit then took her hitch hiking to Los Angeles, California where she studied theatre and script writing and worked as a model and bartender. This is where her love of wine started, but we will get to that soon.
After Los Angeles her next stop was south Florida. She traveled cross-country eating BBQ and when settled in Florida opened up Chez Porky’s with ex-husband Tom Douglas. It is an American Cuisine restaurant with award winning wings. With much success, she still knew it was something else she was meant to do. With many years of bartending and her love of wine, she decided wine school would be the next chapter in her life. Candace attended the United States Sommelier Association in Miami.
After all that she has done, her heart was still pulling her towards the nightlife and being on a stage of life every day. She loves entertaining, people and wine, so a wine bar could be just the thing for her next journey in life. A friend of Candace’s was selling a wine bar on 33rd street, and so the deal was made and 33rd Street wine bar was born. 33rd Street Wine Bar opened in June 2007 and to me is still the heart of that area. Located at 3337 NE 33rd Street, Fort Lauderdale the wine bar was voted by New Times as 2012’s Best Wine Bar in Fort Lauderdale. With its popularity and Candace’s love of art, its not only a wine bar but an art galleria filled with beautiful pieces. My favorite is Billy Hublik and his wine label pieces of art. The atmosphere of a boutique style wine bar with live music every weekend, this place is your everyday escape. Fine wines, great music, beautiful art, and great company, 33rd Street Wine Bar has it all so make sure you go check it out! The wine bar is open at 5pm-2am every weekday and 7pm on weekends. Any questions just give them a call at 954-566-2111. See you there!
