12 Dead and 50 Injured in Colorado Movie Massacre
AURORA, Colo. – 12 People are dead and many more injured after a deadly movie theater shooting. The gunman, 24-year-old James Holmes, attacked a crowded, late-night showing of the Dark Knight Rises at a multiplex theater in a local, suburban mall.
Holmes first purchased a ticket for the late night movie, then propped open the back door to the theater. After making a trip to his car to get a gas mask, four guns, and a canister of tear gas, Holmes re-entered the theater through the open back door dressed like the Joker. Then he threw the canister of tear gas into the crowd and opened fire on the theater, killing 12 people, and injuring 50 others in the crazed assault.
“Every few seconds, it was just boom, boom, boom,” she said. “He would reload and shoot, and anyone who would try to leave would just get killed. “It almost seemed like fun to him,” one movie goer told CNN.
Witness described scenes of horror, including stories of one young girl being shot in the cheek and another in the stomach. Doctors working in the local ER said they had never seen so many gunshot victims enter the hospital at one time before.
According to Police, Holmes surrendered in the back of the theater without putting up too much resistance, considering the crimes he had just committed. However, when they searched his apartment, a bomb and multiple booby traps were found. Police have called in the bomb squad to diffuse the apartment for detectives to investigate further. [USAToday]
