Lighting Strikes @ Pocono Raceway & Kills A Man

The NASCAR Spirit Cup was held Sunday in Long Pond, PA, at the Pocono Raceway. While NASCAR fans tailgated, the weather took a turn for the worse. 41-year-old Brian Zimmerman was struck by lighting while standing next to his car in the parking lot. Of the estimated 85,000 people in attendance, 10 of them were actually struck by lighting. When paramedics arrived, Zimmerman was in cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead 3 hours later. NASCAR spokesman David Higdon said:

“We are deeply saddened that a fan has died and others were injured by lightning strikes following today’s race at Pocono. Our thoughts are with them as well as all those affected by this unfortunate accident.”
