Where’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz Since the Wisconsin recall?

One easy way that newspapers slant the news is not to cover what should be a story. The editors and reporters pretend that certain things just did not happen so that their readers wll not know about these events. One example of this lack of coverage in the Sun Sentinel centers on the aftermath of the Wisconsin recall, the role of local congresswoman and DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and her denial of what actually happened there. In case you only get your news from the Sun Sentinel, which would be a huge mistake, this is what happened. Wasserman Schultz is a local congresswoman who was handpicked by Obama to be the Chair of the Democratic National Committee(DNC). Scott Walker is the governor of Wisconsin and he has done awesome things there, like successfully limiting collective- bargaining rights for public-sector workers, which helped in balancing the budget. In Wisconsin, unemployment has decreased to 6.7%, well below the national average of 8.2 %, and deficits are down, unlike the record of the Obama-Wasserman Schultz team.

Unhappy with the progress Walker has made, the Democrats, who are dependent on the money and support from public-sector unions, decided to recall him. Debbie Wasserman Schultz called him an extremist and in liberal Wisconsin, a state that went for Obama in 2008 by 13.9 percentage points, the recall failed and the voters of Wisconsin apparently went over to the “extremist” side. Wasserman-Schultz had previously told Candy Crowley of CNN that the recall in Wisconsin was a “dry run” for the Obama-for-America campaign. If it was, then what can we make of Walker prevailing by eight percentage points? Now, Wasserman Schultz is saying that the recall loss will have no national repercussions. If you depended on the Sun Sentinel, you would not know about Wasserman Schultz and her reactions to the failure of the recall. You would also not have seen any of the intrepid reporters of that “newspaper” try to interview her about the failed effort to recall Walker in Wisconsin.

One source that is actually covering Debbie Wasserman Schultz is Patricia Campion of the Tampa Independent Examiner. Much of the information for this column came from her reporting. Campion is a political writer and actually is covering Debbie Wasserman Schultz even though Campion is based in Tampa. Too bad the Fort Lauderdale-based Sun Sentinel, which has a larger stake in reporting on a local congresswoman who happens to be the head of the DNC, will not do the same. Unlike the Sun Sentinel, Campion has also reported that Karen Harrington, one of Debbie’s opponents in the congressional election, has asked that Wasserman Schultz release who is paying for her extensive traveling. Harrington also noted that because Debbie Wasserman Schultz demanded that Mitt Romney release his tax return, Debbie should also release hers. If you want to read about Debbie, I suggest you look at the Tampa Independent Examiner.

One would think that intrepid “reporters” might try to get an interview with Debbie Wasserman Schultz about this. Of course, I am not surprised by this blackout. The Sun Sentinel has always been kind to Wasserman-Schultz in the stories they do run about her. In this case, not covering these events is their way of being kind to her and serves as an example of how they slant the news.
