Day 4: Olympic Basketball Tournament
I think the Beatles were performing hit records Thursday night, oh wait that was Team USA basketbal that broke a few records, and shattered others. They hardly missed. The leading scorer with 37 points, and making 10 of 12 3-pointers was Carmelo Anthony. Team USA rewrote the Olympic record books with an amazng shooting performance and 156-73 win Thursday night. This epic blowout might send a message to the rest of the men’s tournament field. Anthony set the U.S. Olympic mark for points in a game in only playing a total of 14 total minutes.
The U.S. also set the Olympic record for points in a game(156) and points in a half (78). The Americans bettered the U.S. records as well for 3-pointers (26), field goals (59) and field-goal percentage (71). Team USA hit the 100-point mark with 5 minutes left in the third. Andre Iguodala hit a 3-pointer with 4:37 left, the previous Olympic record of 138 points set by Brazil against Egypt in 1988 was all but forgotten about. When the record was announced to the stunned crowd, all the players on U.S.A’s bench got up and slapped hands with coach Mike Krzyzewski.
