Saratoga: Travers 143 Wow!!!!
Dead Heat: A situation or result of a race in which two or more competitors are exactly even.
Saturday afternoon at Saratoga Race Course resulted in the first dead heat in the Grade 1, $1 million Travers since 1874. Alpha the better number one choice on the board hit the wire alongside long shot Golden Ticket. Both horses completed the 1 ¼ miles in exactly 2:02.74.
In the 1874 Mid-Summer Derby, Attila and Acrobat finished in a tie, with Attila winning a match race between the two and claiming the official victory. Alpha looked beaten as Golden Ticket began edging away inside the eighth pole. Alpha dug into the dirt, and made a mad dash in the final yards. With one last lunge at the finish, he hit the line at the same time as Golden Ticket. At the end of the race, neither jockey was sure who had won the race. Well, both did, giving David Cohen and Ramon Dominguez their first Travers win. With Alpha’s dead heat win, he becomes the 10th horse to complete the Jim Dandy-Travers double.
As a fan of the sport of horse racing, and being there live to watch it, it was a great finish to a fun day at the Spa.
