Facebook Admits To 83 Million Fake Accounts and More
Facebook admitted publicly this week that 8.7% of its 955 million active accounts are duplicates or fakes, with another 2.4% of its accounts being listed as mis-classified like businesses running personal pages, or people running other pages aside from their primary page.
Then a few days ago, a digital distribution firm called Limited Press alleged that, based on its own analytics software, 80% of clicks on its advertisements within Facebook had come from fake users.
“Do we know who the bots belong too? No. Are we accusing Facebook of using bots to drive up advertising revenue. No. Is it strange? Yes.”
After originally ignoring the problem, Facebook, which is under intense scrutiny lately, has said it is looking into the problem. [BBC]
